What the School Says
Colgate combines the rigorous academic demands of a university with the intimate classroom setting of a liberal arts college.
Our faculty are world-renowned scholars - you'll be studying with the very best. And Colgate is the best place, bar none, for undergraduates to work side-by-side with faculty members on original projects.
Through our groundbreaking residential life program you'll learn how to organize and lead people and projects better than anywhere else (in fact, most places won't teach you this stuff at all).
The university offers 51 concentrations (majors), and the courses of study we offer are as varied as the types of students we attract.
Colgate's off-campus study program is one of the strongest among the top-20 liberal arts universities, and our Core curriculum has been recognized by the American Association of Colleges and Universities as a model for liberal arts education in the 21st century.
Colgate students can choose from among 51 majors. Our departments and programs span the disciplines of humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, social sciences, and university studies (interdisciplinary programs).
At Colgate, students refer to their major fields of study as their concentrations. With 2,800 undergraduates, Colgate is larger than most liberal arts colleges in the country, and is able to offer 51 resource-rich concentrations.
Students can minor in any of the concentrations as well as some additional subjects (see Minors).
