Guidence Counselor Gaffe: Wrong College Transcript
Monday, November 10th, 2008Ok, I know this sounds like it’s from a movie but I actually sent in the wrong college transcript. That’s right Babs, I accidentally placed one student’s academic record in another student’s envelope. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the error until I was going through my files and stumbled upon the transcript that I thought I had sent the day before. I have no idea what to do in order to rectify this. Am I going to lose all credibility as a guidance counselor? Will my students hate me? What should I do?!?
What? Guidance counselors aren’t perfect? The horror!
Seriously, though-I doubt that you are the first counselor to ever make an administrative error with a college application. While you might feel a little embarrassed about your gaffe, a simple phone call to the college admissions office will easily rectify the situation-and your student will never be the wiser.
I worked in a college admissions office at Emerson College for three years and one of my many duties was to file credentials sent in with students’ applications. If the people in that admissions office were half as careful as I was, the mistake will be noticed-hey, by the time you read this column, you might already have gotten a call from the college alerting you to your mistake!
In short, I wouldn’t sweat the mistake as long as you send a new transcript. Chalk it up as a lesson learned and don’t lose any more sleep over it.
