Top 10 Reasons CNN Is Dead – Why I Get My News from Late Night TV Instead

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

10.  Craig Ferguson has been an American citizen for barely a year.

9.  Why listen to the news?  There’s no better place to get political information than from a candidate himself, like Stephen Colbert.

8.  CNN repeats the same stuff every hour.  Obama and McCain say the same things every day.  But at least Letterman and Leno only say the same things every other day.

7.  We get more new and fresh political information from Tina Fey and Fred Armisen on Saturday Night Live than we ever could from Sarah Palin and Barack Obama themselves.

6.  The only people that are no-shows more often than John McCain on late night talk shows are his supporters.

5.  CNN seems to reiterate SNL’s coverage of the election anyway.

4.  The American people believe David Letterman, Jay Leno and Conan O’ Brien are all more qualified to be president than either Obama or McCain.

3.  Because FOX News is about as fair and balanced as Bill O’ Reilly’s temper.

2.  Because a two-minute monologue on TV has many different jokes and a lot of entertainment value.  A two-hour presidential debate has no jokes and no entertainment value.

1.  I’m tired of hearing networks talk about McCain’s problems with Colin Powell.  Men his age always have colon problems.

Hofstra University Hosts Final Presidential Debate

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

In case you are wondering why Hofstra University got the plum job of hosting the final debate between presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain, here’s your answer:

Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY (Long Island) is home to the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency. While many colleges and universities offer American history and political science among their academic majors, Hofstra is one of the only schools that allows for such a concentrated study on the office of the American President.

There is a lengthy application process for colleges to complete in order to be chosen as a debate site, but Hofstra had lots of backing from various supporters on the local, state, and federal levels of government, thanks to its excellent academic program focusing on the presidency.

Hey Hofstra students—any of you snag a ticket to the event? Tell the CampusCompare universe all about it!

Transfer Happens—Just Ask Governor Sarah Palin

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Most Republicans these days will be glad to tell you about the long resume of Senator McCain’s VP candidate and governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.

What they might not tell you is that the resume’s length might have to do with the fact that Palin transferred schools six times in the six years it took to earn her college degree.

According to AOL News, Palin first attended the University of Hawaii at Hilo for several weeks before switching to Hawaii Pacific University. She then transferred to North Idaho College for two semesters before switching to the University of Idaho for another two. Then, Palin went to Matanuska-Susitna College in Palmer, Alaska for a semester before returning to the University of Idaho, from which she graduated with a degree in journalism with a concentration in broadcasting.

University of Hawaii at Hilo has no registrar record for Palin but even still—five college transfers is a whole lot of application paperwork.

Do you think Governor Palin will be able to make it through four years in the same place if McCain wins the presidency?
