Gossip Girl and Aaron… addicted to texts

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

This week on Gossip Girl: Jenny’s fashionable battle for independence rages on, Serena’s dating standards plummet to shocking lows and Blair unwraps the 18th birthday present of a lifetime!

Hmmphh, there must be something tainting the Upper East Side VitaminWater because Gossip Girl has really been throwing me off lately. First things first, Serena is the hottest and most dazzling chick in the eastern seaboard and WHY, I ask you, WHY is she getting mixed up with Grunge-Bob Biker-Pants, Aaron???

He’s a poetic tool who references Cecil the Caterpillar nursery rhymes and texts freakishly coordinated “maps” for Serena to follow and come “find him”. Yet, despite his greasy bangs and foolish clothes that make him look homeless, Serena continues to go running off whenever his psycho scavenger hunt texts come beeping in.

I think Blair better knock some sense into her bff before she starts trading in her parfum for Patchouli oils and Blahniks for Birkenstocks.

In less disappointing news, B. Waldorf turns the big 1-8. Amid her lavish “grown-up” party that’s crashed by none other than Cyndi Lauper herself, B sets her Harry Winston choker hopes aside and accepts a birthday gift of…

wait for it…

a shiny, new…. conscious!!!

Ooh Blair, bravo! I commend the CW for your compassionate character development in just one short episode. Your new found maturity is no doubt a flattering look for you. You’ve graciously conceded to your mother dating a troll and even acknowledged a ripple of happiness for her under your icy, ivory shell.

Again this week the curtain closes on Jenny Humphrey in caked-on eyeliner pondering another dramatic dilemma….

Will she divorce herself from mommy and daddy to win control of her new fashion line?

Wait, isn’t J. Humphrey Designs extinct since Angry Agnes torched it?

Does she still have the coffee filter hat?!!!

Ughh, and where the “h” is Nate and his skinny tie!!????

Dispense your whispers here and check back next week for another recap.

Stay fierce…

Xo xo,

Gossip Girl

R.I.P to the coffee-filter hat

College Rankings your Way

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

College rankings are a bunch of numbers that don’t tell you if the school is the right fit for you.

That’s where CampusCompare comes in. We think you are more than a sum of your grades. We let you search for schools based on your own interests, goals and desires.

For example, are you interested in Zoology, but not sure which college even has that major and certainly which college has the best Zoology major in the nation.

By filing out your profile and telling us what you are looking for—from what majors you are interested in, to what activities and clubs you are into, to how much money you’ve got to spend on college, to your college admissions test scores (yes, we still know they count for something), we’ll help you find colleges that match your interests.

And don’t worry. We keep your setting private. We don’t want others to know how much cash you’ve got. We just want to help you find schools that match your finances.

Once you’ve created your profile, check out the MatchMe setup in your dashboard. Choose what kind of college you are into. From public and private to tuition costs, to city size and majors, you can select exactly what you are looking for.

When you search for colleges, you can match your search to your profile by the click of one button and…BOOM!—CampusCompare will find all the colleges that meet what you are looking for.

We the legwork out and do the homework for you. We show you what you are looking for, in one spot. Now all you gotta do is have fun in deciding which option to choose.

For instance, there are 72 schools that have majors in Zoology. But only one that’s a private, urban school—Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.

So what are you waiting for. It’s your turn. Go find the school that will meet your match.

Compare Schools with CampusCompare

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

CampusCompare is all about making things easy. We want to help you compare schools and find a great one for you by putting all the info you need in one place. We know you’ve got better things to do.

So we added this new feature. It’s an organize your schools tool.  And this is how it works.

First search for colleges using our college search page. Once you’ve signed up, you can save the colleges that you are into in your dashboard.

Then click on the ‘organize your saved schools’ button.  You can lay out all your colleges of interest in one place, so you can compare and contrast key information with ease. You can see side by side, which degrees are offered at each school, what their top majors are, the SAT/ACT requirements at each college, whether the schools have early action and admissions, even the application fees, the availability of financial aid, and more.

So you can compare schools and see which one makes the most sense for you.

You can also organize your schools into safety, target and reach. Chances are you are going to apply to more than one schools. This feature lets you plot out your goals and let’s you visualize your plan.

Just drag and drop your saved colleges into the safety, target and reach bubbles.

But what do these terms mean exactly and how can they help you?

Safety schools: These schools are the no brainers. You know you’ll get. It’s best that you have at least a couple of safety schools on your application list to make sure you have somewhere to go. Probably worthwhile to think about these, because let’s face it, you may end up there.

Target schools: These schools are the ones that you’re really into attending and have about a 60-40 chance of getting into. These should be the bulk of schools that you apply to. Everyone likes a bit of a challenge right? Think about it, if you get into these, you will be super proud of yourself than just going the safe route. So this should be your fullest section.

Reach schools: These are your dreams schools. Let’s be honest, your chances of getting into these are slim. But hey, it’s good to think big and you should never cut yourself off from something just because you don’t think you’ll get in. In fact, applying to these schools can be a smart move because if you get in you can use them as a bargaining tool– as leverage for getting a larger financial aid package at another college. And you never know. You might just be able to live out your dreams.

This feature even include how your SAT scores match up to the requirements of the colleges all out in front of you.

So go ahead, try it out. And start to compare schools with organization and style.
