Bentley College Becomes Bentley University
CampusCompare would like to congratulate the students, faculty, and administration of Bentley College in Waltham, MA for achieving university status. The school will now be known as Bentley University.
What does it mean when a school changes from college to university? Well, besides being a great reason to go to the bookstore and buy a new sweatshirt, the significance of this transition reaches much further than a simple change in name.
Over the last decade, Bentley, known for its excellent business programs, greatly expanded its academic offerings, as well as beefed up its research programs. Administrators also have poured some serious cash into updating and constructing new buildings on campus, including residence halls, a student center, and a sports facility, as well as new library and state-of-the-art labs.
In short, moving from college to university means that the school has the ability to offer more and more great opportunities for you. Bentley already had a great reputation as a business school, but its new university status will propel it further on to the national and international stage, which means that it can recruit even better students.
Keep in mind, though, that some colleges are actually universities. Confused? Take Boston College for example. This school, despite its name, is actually a university, but since there is already a Boston University, the name has stuck.

Wow barbs my best friend went to bentley (when it was still bentley college back in 2005) and she raves about how awesome the academics there are. I bet she hasn’t even heard that her alma mater is now a bonified university! Go bentley!
