Hofstra University Hosts Final Presidential Debate
Thursday, October 16th, 2008In case you are wondering why Hofstra University got the plum job of hosting the final debate between presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain, here’s your answer:
Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY (Long Island) is home to the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency. While many colleges and universities offer American history and political science among their academic majors, Hofstra is one of the only schools that allows for such a concentrated study on the office of the American President.
There is a lengthy application process for colleges to complete in order to be chosen as a debate site, but Hofstra had lots of backing from various supporters on the local, state, and federal levels of government, thanks to its excellent academic program focusing on the presidency.
