Harvard Lab-Rats on Rampage

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Harvard University’s construction of a 5 acre science center is being blamed for a recent infestation of rats in the area surrounding the site. Terrified citizens claim that the digging for the University’s science center unearthed rats’ nests and sent the vermin fleeing to the next available safe-haven: human homes. The Ivy League university, which claims to have effectively eradicated any rats’ nests, denies claims. “Foot long” rats have been spotted rummaging through trash, scurrying across kitchen floors, and generally causing mayhem. Apparently, they do not make good ratatouille.

Earth Day College Guide

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

This Earth Day, celebrate our planet by helping to preserve and sustain its bounty. On college campuses across the country, participate in one of the thousands of events designed to teach, explore, and give-back to the environment.

Here are some creative ways that college students are “going green” this Earth Day:

Connecticut College, New London, CT: Instead of celebrating Earth Day for just one day, Connecticut College has been celebrating for a whole month. Highlights of the month-long celebration include a “Localvore Dinner” that introduces students and faculty to food made form entirely local (less than 200 miles away) ingredients. Tomorrow, a Green Career Fair will introduce students to jobs and graduate programs that address environmental issues.

UC San Diego, La Jolla, CA:  The San Diego Supercomputer Center and UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management, in partnership with CommNexus, will present a panel of academic and industry experts discussing ways to make computing systems “greener” in order to meet the global demands for digital information and services without negatively effecting the environment.

Green Mountain College, Poultney, VT: No, the annual Garlic Mustard Pull is not a tasty condiment.  Each year, students and faculty gather the noxious weed Alliaria petiolat, commonly known as garlic

Whether you are on a college campus or at home, enjoy the Earth Day festivities!
