CampusCompare Dishes Dirt at College Fest 2008

Monday, September 29th, 2008

The CampusCompare crew had a blast at College Fest that was held this past weekend at Hynes Convention Center in Boston. There were dozens of vendors there offering cool swag, and numerous musical acts, including Soulja Boy.

CampusCompare’s booth was swarmed by friendly college students who were ready to dish the dirt about their colleges. There are now tons of new college reviews on our site—check it out!

Our crew sent students away with cool nylon CampusCompare bags and fun stickers. Also, one lucky student won a Nintendo Wii—what a cool addition to the dorm!

Go to CampusCompare’s fan page on Facebook to see pictures from College Fest. Were you there? We’d love to hear about your experience.

Poor Columbia University Graduates

Friday, September 26th, 2008

We’ve long been trained to think that the Ivy Leagues are the be all and end all of everything in higher education. So that’s why it’s a lot of fun to see when one of them tanks—even if only a little bit.

According to an article in the Columbia Spectator, the median starting salary of Columbia University grads is just $59,400, putting it in the bottom half of its competitors in the Ivy League.  Ten years after graduation, Columbia grads’ median salary of $107,000 is at the very bottom of the competition, far surpassed by leader Dartmouth College, whose grads are commanding $134,000. The data was compiled by Payscale.

Poor, poor Columbia alumni. Only 60K upon graduation and low six figures a decade later. It’ll be interesting to see how they continue to fare in this economy.

Green Campuses Make the Grade

The College Sustainability Report Card has been released, awarding grades to 300 colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada based on their actions and initiatives to maintain green, eco-friendly campuses. The grades are result of an independent annual survey conducted by the Cambridge, MA-based Sustainable Endowments Institute.

While no school surveyed earned an A, these 15 were at the head of the class with an A-.
