The Big East Conference
Don’t be fooled by the name Big East. It is a collegiate athletics conference made up of 17 universities in the Northeastern, Southeastern and Midwestern United States.
Members of the Big East Conference are: University of Cincinnatti, University of Connecticut, DePaul University, Georgetown University, University of Louisville, Marquette University, University of Notre Dame, University of Pittsburgh, Providence College, Rutgers University, St. John’s University, Seton Hall University, University of South Florida, Syracuse University, Villanova University, West Virginia University.
The Big East is big into NCAA sports. 23 to be exact including: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, indoor & outdoor track and volleyball.
Eight of the 17 are football members and they compete in the Bowl Championship Series in the Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS, formerly Division 1-A), the top level of NCAA competition. Georgetown and Villanova compete in the Football Championship (formerly known as Division 1-AA) and Notre Dame plays as a FBS independent.

- Of the Big East’s 16 full members, 15 have been to the Final Four (that’s 93%)—by far the most of any conference. (the only college that never made it is South Florida.
- Pittsburgh won the 2007-2008 Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship
- Connecticut won the 2007-2008 Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship
