The Mid American Conference
Wednesday, June 11th, 2008The Mid-American conference (MAC) is, you guessed it, an athletic conference made up of colleges in the mid-America. Member colleges stretch from New York to Illinois. Nine of the 12 full members schools are in Ohio and Michigan with single members also located in Illinois, Indiana and New York.
The schools participate in NCAA Division I and for football in the top level of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
The MAC has been called the conference of Quarterbacks because of the accomplishment of players in the National Football League.
And the conference isn’t just all star at the level of sports. It boasts the highest amongst all 11 NCAA Division 1 FBS conferences for graduation rates.
Mid-American conference schools participate in 23 sports—11 for men and 12 for women including baseball, basketball, cross-country, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track, volleyball and wrestling.
Mid-American conference teams include: Akron Zips, Bowling Green Falcons, Buffalo Bulls, Kent State Golden Flashes, Miami RedHawks, Ohio Bobcats, Temple Owls (football only), Ball State Cardinals, Central Michigan Chippewas, Eastern Michigan Eagles, Northern Illinois Huskies, Toledo Rockets and the Western Michigan Broncos.
