School Admissions is Out for Summer

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Yesterday was the deadline for high-school seniors to decide which college to attend. Here are some interesting national figures compiled at UCLA:

  • An estimated 1.4 million graduating high school seniors will enter college this fall.
  • Most of them submitted multiple applications, some as many as a dozen.
  • About 20% or over 270,000 didn’t get into their first choice.

At CampusCompare, we want to help you make the most out of the application process.  Use our college search tool to help you zero in on colleges that interest you. You can save schools and organize them into safety, target and reach schools.

Safety schools are colleges that you are super sure you’ll get into.

Target schools are colleges you would like to attend and have about a 50-50 chance of doing so.

Reach schools are your long shot schools. But hey, you can’t get in if you don’t apply!

By using this feature you can lay out, organize and arrange your schools to see what’s possible and what you still need.  You can even compare and contrast key info like application fees and SAT requirements.

In the meantime, congratulations to those who got accepted to college. Now you can stop stressing and get back to thinking about your high school graduation party!

A student’s advice on College Application and Admissions

Friday, February 8th, 2008

My two cents:

I would say, with regards to the admissions process, make sure you cover all your bases. Make sure you fill out all the necessary forms and that all the extra application forms, the financial aid forms, and other miscellaneous objects along the way are all taken care of. This will ensure that nothing is standing in your way for admissions nor any money you have coming to you. Also pay attention, spend time, and edit your essay. Make sure it really is one of your best pieces of writing. And lastly I would say as easy as it is to procrastinate about all of this, because it isn’t the easiest or most fun process, don’t leave it until the last minute. This may lead to doing it in a hurry and you may skip over something or just not fill it out to the best of your abilities. Good luck future students, hope you all get into your #1!
